So...what I am hearing is.....
you guys like the OOT dialog and scripting,
but you want the SE graphics,
BUT not too much CG tampering
AND not too much audio enhancement
Has anyone watched the OOT, no enhancements? Ed said on one of the past shows he cannot throw that vid in without paying attenion to it. He also said that this adewayn productions was his "new" regular viewing pleasure of SW. Good for you Ed!!! BUT
I disagree. I still will stand by the original art. Oh, yeah the eye candy is nice, but for me it cannot take the place of the OOT. Similar to having a quality pizza at two different Chicago pizza places, there will always be "THE ONE" you go back to.
Fan edits and enhancements are like the different sausages those restaurants would use. Nice for the moment and I enjoy the flavor, but I cannot replace my love for the original.
I too am looking forward to Adywan's ESB. My love for the OOT is basically nostalgic. When I watch the movie, I flip back to the day I first saw the film. I remember the theater, the time I saw the film and who I saw it with...... ME!!!
The enhancements are ok for the "What if's..." but I do not want to start thinking like George Lucas about what I would do with a film. Kinda like if homeschool Wise said;...."HMMM, I don't know if the Klaatu verada nikto line is really going to work. Maybe we should change it"
Good post, Bob
I love the OOT first and foremost, not just because of the nostalgia, because we all know of the pull that has on my life, but because of all the effort of all the people that put it together to create this glimpse into another world. Every artist walks away from every project thinking that is wasn't as good as they wanted it to be. Every one be it a visual artist, a singer, a musician, etc. But most of us who are semi-mature adults too will walk away, be happy that people enjoyed it, and move on to the next project.
Lucas is a man who, while a creative genius and master collage artist, has low self-esteem that he allows to affect his projects. I say, again, that when your audience loves what you do, just say thanks and move on.
So the new fan edits for me don't replace the OOTs, but as there have been new versions that expand on all that we know, I love that there are versions that give me all the things I love, plus the things I liked about the expanded versions. It is a great what if, and it lets me watch the movies the way I would think about watching them had no one actually put their time into really doing it.
I know I would never get around to it.
