Well, I know a few VORkers collect these "tall dolls" so I figured we should have a thread dedicated for news/discussion of all things SideShow. The latest news is General Obi-Wan Kenobi in clone armor will be shipping within the next 30 days and the next figure is...the 212th Attack Battalion: Utapau Clone Trooper 12-inch Figure!

I for one am pumped since phase II clones are one of my favorite designs next to OG Stormtroopers! Discuss!

for real real. I would love to get some of them, but I can't get behind the cost. It's one thing to buy a few $6 figures, but once I get into that much money, I can't justify it when I have other things I need to put that money towards.

Hey all right! This thread is booming! Yeah I understand the cost factor. But if you don't buy the Hasbro stuff, buy from other sources beside SSC (lower prices), and factor in that these come out maybe once a quarter then I think they are worth it. But to each his own...anyone else picking these up?

Is it me or is the helmet not quite right? The 'jawline' (for lack of better wording) doesn't protrude enough.

Not that I'd buy any Sideshow, but isn't accuracy the whole point of these pricey dolls?

don't get me wrong I love the ones I have but I realized why am I spending $80 to put something on my shelf. they're marked up so much it's ridiculous.

they could charge $35 a piece and still make a handsome profit.

I don't do the sideshow thing but, I kind of think they are slowly cutting their own throats with these prices. I am so glad I never started this line. My compeltionism would make me poor.
They look very cool but I don't think they look 4.5 times or even 2 times cooler than what hasbro produced with 12" line. Really I don't get it, most of these are on the same 2 or 3 molds that they all ready have made with different heads.
I feel for you guys, but ultimately you need to evaluate why you collect, and if it is worth what they ask in return. For me it is no way, but it was no from the begining also.
It seems to me that the prices are going up because less people are purchasing and they need to recoop their cost, not because the product is better or oil costs.

SS dollies are my one Star Wars collecting vice. I gave up on Hasbro years ago without ever getting truly nice representations of my favorite characters. As a result, I skip most of the prequel and side characters. That keeps things relatively affordable for me.

I cannot wait for the ANH Vader and Stormtroopers!

I started thinking about it today. I mean, I have nothing against SS figures but I would never buy them. I think some of them are down right amazing and it's rare that there's one that I think looks poorly made. So why don't I just get those instead of hunting around all the different department stores and such just to find a couple action figures I think look good.

Then it hit me. I like shopping for the figures. Many times when I go out and hunt for figures, I am with someone. I am with a friend or a family dick, looking through the pegs. Talking about what we like or dislike about the figures. The thrill of finding something you haven't seen before. That's not really an experience that you get from buying online. So, I can't fault anyone for getting the SS figures, but it's just not my bag.

I might change my mind later though lol

I can definitely see where you're coming from with that. Some of the best times I've ever had were going from Target to TRU to Wal Mart hunting for figs. Back in those days, I wasn't all that worried about the quality, or lack thereof, of the Hasbro stuff. It was just a fun excuse to hang out with my BFF.

The problem was that a lot of the stuff just never showed up in our area. Nothing's worse than spending months hunting for that elusive Admiral Motti figure only to be let down. WAH!

word.

Yeah, I feel you about the looking for one and never finding it. It's a giant let down, but... if you find that figure, it will make your week or even month.

As for the quality, I am pretty picky. I actually end up disliking about 20% of the figures I pick up once I get them out of the package, but now that I'm getting back into the game the number is shrinking. I know what to look for as far as articulation and such. That way I don't fall for the dreaded "It looks really good, but he hasn't a single joint in his body" ploy.

I have a feeling I will end up buying a SS figure or two, but for now I am happy with the thrill of the hunt. I mean, hell, I was even checking Walgreens today for figures.

I think the figures are really cool-looking, but I'm with some of you guys. They're expensive dolls, not toys. I dig me some toys, man. Gimme 3 3/4 all the way.

I love looking at them online or at comic shops, but I've never had the urge to get one.

Well since the show isn't dead yet I felt it was my duty to continue this thread that only a hand full of people care about! So since my last post I have received my SSC Indiana Jones, General Obi-Wan Kenobi in Clone armor, and the Rebel Fleet trooper! Whew! What a haul! There have also been a few announcements too: "Stormtrooper Commander" from the Force Unleashed aka the Paul Stanley Stormtrooper, Han Solo in Carbonite dioram-rama, and most recently Obi-Wan Kenobi Jedi Knight from Episode II that will be a limited run. Below are some pics of the upcoming figures. Enjoy!

Ugh, Lucasfilm probably mandated this figure into production to shill their shitty game.

If you don't have Jabba and the gang then this is a pass, fo show.

The only reason Episode II is watchable.

And I know I mentioned a possible Genral Kenobi review but I thought this forum was done for, so I'll get my shit together and whip one up. In the meantime enjoy these pics I took of the Rebel Fleet trooper.

And one with the underrated Praji.
