Okay I've heard you guys mention the way the Droids and chewie were treated in the OT compared to how they were treated in the Prequels and my take on it is this. Droids for the most part are treated like tools but I think part of the reason that they treat R2 and 3PO the way they do is something like people in our universe and cars, we name them give them personalities and even talk to and argue with them, and cars are non-thinking objects, Droids seem to have almost dog-like inteligence(in the case of R2 and other Astromechs) or near human intelligence(in the case of 3PO and other Protocol droids). Droids with the ammount of sophistication that R2 and 3PO would have to have to do the things they do would over time develop personalities especially if they didn't have their memories wiped and in some of the EU novels there are references to droids being programmed with personalities to start with but in Ep I you don't see people sitting around crying because all of the droids that got blasted while the queen's ship ran the blockade out of Naboo. They just said thanks to R2 and went about their business. As to Chewie being Han's dog, I would say you could make the argument the Silent Bob is Jay's pet. Obviously im blowing it out of proportion a bit but my thing is. You very rarely see Han working on the Falcon, with the exception of Empire, if something fucks up on the Falcon Han sends Chewie to work on it and in Star Wars, when they are leaving the Death Star after saving Leia, Han obviously trusts Chewie enough to let him pilot the ship while he goes to give Luke a pep talk and fight off the incoming TIEs. I always kind of got the view of them as a mix of brains and brawn, Han being the smooth-talking Hotshot Pilot and chewie being the quiet strong back-up. Anyway that's my opinion
